Julia K. Porter
was born in Beech Grove, Indiana.Julia attended Center Grove High School, where
she graduated in 1999.After earning a degree from Indiana University-Purdue
University/Indianapolis (IUPUI) in English Education, Julia moved to Brooklyn, New York.Since 2003, Julia has been teaching English at St. Joseph High School, an all girls’ school that has been in
existence for over 100 years.It is through her work at St. Joseph High School
and with her students that Julia has realized the importance of single-sex education and its impact on young women.Since 2006, Julia has also advised a chapter of Glamour Gals, a nonprofit organization that connects the
elderly community to youth through makeovers. Julia received her Master of Arts in English literature from Brooklyn College
in 2007 and plans to return to Indiana in 2008 to promote and open the Inez School for Girls in Fort Wayne.
